We have been learning about abstract art. It’s all about creating works of art that don’t actually look like anything. We focused on the American artist Frank Stella, who liked to make pictures using shapes like circles, triangles and rectangles.

This week for play make create we read a book called I am peace. Our teacher Mrs B read the story to us. I choose to build a tree with my feeling on it and we also had to do a peace of writing.

Then you create something based on the message and also do a piece of writing. You can use materials or make a digital creation. This week Mrs Craig Read the book: Wombat Stew. It was about a dingo who caught a wombat and tried to make wombat stew. But, it didn’t work because dingo got poisoned.
I chose to design a trap to catch a wombat and my procedure writing.

This week we carried on with our ‘insect’ topic for reading, writing, handwriting. For maths we practised basic facts and worked on writing a variety of equations which would have a certain number for the answer. We also practised solving problems using place value or known facts knowledge. Here is a selection of my work:
Because we were using ‘Insects’ as a topic this week for reading and writing we created some works of art based on insects also. We had to make them out of any materials we could find at home. I chose to use fabric and string.

Yet another thing we did for writing this week was to imagine that we had undergone metamorphosis.
We had to pretend we had woken up one morning and discovered we had changed. It would be like going to sleep as a caterpillar and waking up as a butterfly. We had to write about what our new body was like and what we could do. I chose to : write mine about a caterpillar into a butterfly.

This week one thing we did for writing was a Come to Your Senses Poem. First you had to think of a human emotion, like love. Then you had to say what colour it would be. Then, you had to write 5 more sentences using your 5 senses saying how each would relate to love. The emotion I chose was: Excitement

Today we wrote a piece of writing about the weather. we got to choose what ever type we wanted. I choose to write about thunder.
On Friday we got to do Matariki day. We got to do a bunch of activities. I got to do tin can art. I had a lot of fun. We drew our Maori design then we put holes where our lines were and then we painted them. Soon they dried and we got to put a candle in it. I also got to do coding with Mrs Gardiner. It was so fun. We made our own music and we did a bit of coding and that is what I did. Here are some photos.

This week we have been doing a lot of writing this time we got to choose our topic. I have based mine about my weekend when I went to my nan's house. We had to put in a bunch of different types of writing. We put in different sentence starters, similes, personification, and adjectives.

We have coded our own unplugged program of the five stages of the cicada life-cycle. We have included some obstacles too. The goal is to be able to have someone follow our codes to navigate our life-cycle by getting from stage 1 to stage 5 and avoiding the obstacles. Here are some examples of our coded life-cycles.

This week we have been doing a lot of writing a couple of weeks ago my class went to a church next door to our school. We got back and did some writing about it. The hard part was to describe the church,the easy part was to write it down here is my writing and a picture of the church.

This week we have been reading a lot of books, we have done some reading activities I have done a farming fish one my friend and I have put in some facts about how people farm fish in the Solomon Islands. The hard part was to find all the facts, the easy part was to writing the facts down the learning behind this task was to find out how to farm fish.
We have been learning that statistics is the maths of data. Data is information/facts. We collected data using tally charts and then we made bar graphs and dot plot graphs using pen and paper. Then, we used our computers to make graphs. Here is my graph about favourite chocolate I made this on a website the website was very easy to use because all you had to do was write all the things you wanted on it and then you ask people what their favourite thing is that you did on your graph. Here is my graph that I made about chocolate.

Last week as part of our Whare Tapa Wha learning we sketched important people in our families. We then used water colours to paint our pictures.
What I like about my art is the people and who I have painted.
